Looking for a fun, free, and hands-on activity to do with your kids? Home Depot’s monthly kids workshop might be your new favorite Saturday tradition.

What Is It?

If you’ve never been to a Home Depot Kids Workshop, you’re missing out—it’s such a fun (and free!) activity for the kids. These workshops happen the first Saturday of every month from 9 AM to 12 PM. They supply everything for you, tables and chairs aka orange buckets, hammer, screwdriver, the kit and paint.

Pro tip: Get there early! Once they run out of kits, that’s it. Plus, the earlier you arrive, the better chance you have at grabbing a spot at a table before it gets packed. If the tables are full, sit on the ground, sometimes it’s easier to hammer the craft on the floor then on a table with 8 other kiddos.

Why We Love It

Each child gets their own Home Depot apron (which, not gonna lie, might be the reason I keep going—so cute!). They also get a pin for every one they complete. It’s such a fun little tradition and the kids feel so proud walking out with their finished projects.

This Month’s Project: A Wooden Toucan

This was definitely the trickiest build we’ve done yet. Normally, the kids can handle most of the steps, but this one needed a little (ok, a lot) more help from Adam and me. I may or may not have put a piece on backwards… and he may or may not have done the same. Oops!

But the kids had a blast, and that’s all that matters! The toucans turned out a little wonky but very loved.

The Best Part (According to the Kids):

Painting! They could’ve skipped the tools and gone straight for the brushes. Just a heads up—don’t let them wear nice clothes. That paint does not come out, no matter how hard you try.

Also… this is your reminder to take a deep breath and let the mess happen! The creativity (and joy) is worth it.

This is one of our favorite screen-free weekend activities. It’s simple, hands-on, and gives the kids something to be proud of. We can’t wait for next month’s workshop!
